How easy can organising corporate days out be?
The problem with corporate events is that there are so many moving parts to it. You’ve got to get the actually event sorted which in its self is a mammoth task. Trying to organise entertainment whilst also being relative to the company. The fact that most team building events fall under the category of lame and uninteresting doesn’t usually instil a sense of excitement or interest for its employees.
Corporate days are a fundamental to improve a business cohesiveness, especially the ones that involve big giant inflatables rather that those office trivia games that have everyone’s skin crawling. First things first, you need to come up with an idea you need to incorporate a fun and interesting theme. Pick something that is engaging and enjoyable for the participants talking part. A lot of media attention has been focused on ‘Escaping the Maze’ activity’s but if you want something for the summer months outside in sunshine potentially an it’s a Knockout styled event. Secondly, keep participants engaged with immersive activities. If one of the goals of your event is to teach participants new skills, explore training approaches that require active participation. Getting your participants out of their chairs and interacting with one another creates excitement throughout the event. Finally, don’t force the corporate stuff the most successful, memorable team-building events are ones that don’t feel like a day at the office. Activities that overtly aim to draw in leadership lessons or practical takeaways are less powerful. Spending time together, sharing an experience or working towards a common goal allows bonding to happen more organically and far more effectively.
Often corporate event days often met with a sigh and moan by the staff but studies have shown that effective strategies of event days actually have proven to benefit the workforce with increased moral, relations and fundamentally better overall performance as Brian Scudamore says in his article on ways that team building improves overall performance.
